The Parable of the Growing Seed

growing seed

By Beau Crosetto

26 He also said, “This is what the kingdom of God is like. A man scatters seed on the ground. 27 Night and day, whether he sleeps or gets up, the seed sprouts and grows, though he does not know how. 28 All by itself the soil produces grain—first the stalk, then the head, then the full kernel in the head. 29 As soon as the grain is ripe, he puts the sickle to it, because the harvest has come.” Mark 4

Today I am sick in bed 🙁

But I am thinking about all the work we are doing here in Los Angeles and some of the things that have not come to fruition yet are giving me anxiety.

As I have been sitting here and praying about it, I really felt like the Lord was speaking to me Mark 4. This is one of my favorite passages and today it is hitting me like this:

Me: “God I am feeling anxious about this thing and it not taking root. Its not popping open like I want it to. Am I failing? Am I spending my time wrong? Do I have wrong expectations?”

God: “No you are doing a good job. You have been following me where I have called you.”

Me: “well then why are we seeing fruit on some campuses and not on this one? Why is this one seemingly so difficult?”

God: “You need to be patient. Some seeds take longer to sprout. Keep sowing and just wait and watch.”

Hence my mind raced to Mark 4 and I take comfort in that passage today.

“Night and day, whether he sleeps or gets up, the seed sprouts and grows, though he does not know how.”

I hate waiting for things and I want to see instant results. But in planting and in evangelism, it just doesn’t work that way all the time or even most of the time.

My job is to keep sowing. I cannot control the growth.

What are you waiting on? What is frustrating you as you labor? Are you still sowing?

  1. That’s a great reminder Beau, we need to hear what he tells us, do that to the best of our ability, and then not worry. The rest is in his hands.

And that’s true of everything we do. We need to be reminded because we very easily forget. Thanks again!
